Coordinating the San Francisco Bay Area and Beyond!
Okay, we have all seen Made of Honor with Patrick Dempsey*, but does that really happen? Do ladies and gents really pick friends of the opposite sex to play a part in their bridal parties?
The answer is a resounding yes, and it’s not only a huge trend but something beautiful to behold. Harry had it all wrong when he told Sally that men and women can’t be friends…they absolutely can, and they can stand up for each other too! Sure, it breaks with tradition a bit, but really, it is 2008 people! Nothing is lovelier than to see couples (who do not feel bound by somewhat archaic rules) honor their true friends with places by their sides at their ceremonies in lieu of struggling to find a man or woman who could possibly fill that person’s place, just because they happen to be the right sex!
On a “real weddings” note, I have been to at least half a dozen weddings already this year where I’ve seen opposite sex attendants. Just this last weekend, I assisted with a breathtaking wedding at Nestldown in Los Gatos, and lo and behold – there was a Grooms-woman! The Groom chose to have her wear a black dress in order to coordinate with the Groomsmen wearing black suits, and she carried a different type of bouquet from the bridesmaids as well. At the reception, when the Bride and Groom introduced their attendants (another lovely touch that I love), the Groom told a story about how he had met his female friend during his freshman year of college and how she had been an amazing friend and confidant ever since. There was not a dry eye in the place!
Long story short, as I always say, it’s your day so honor whomever you like regardless of their orientation…and don’t forget to include your pets if you are so inclined! I’ve seen quite a few doggie ring bearers…but that’s another story!
Hugs!
*If you haven’t seen Made of Honor, and you’re looking for a decent chick flick on a rainy afternoon, check it out. If nothing else, watching Patrick on screen is definitely worth two hours of your time!
